Our History
Our journey began with a shared passion for excellence among our orthodontists, who met regularly in educational circles for Gig Harbor and Tacoma orthodontists. This sense of camaraderie and shared vision led to the formation of Smart Orthodontic Group in 2015. Our team has since grown to include Dr. Leigh Armijo in 2021 and Ameen Shahnam & Kristy Merriman in 2024.
Meet Our Orthodontists
Our team of orthodontists is comprised of highly experienced professionals who are committed to staying at the forefront of the latest advancements in orthodontics. Dr. Chad Smart, Dr. Vincent Kokich Jr., and Dr. Leigh Armijo are all recognized experts in their field, with Dr. Smart being an award-winning orthodontist.
Dr. Chad Smart graduated with honors from California Lutheran University in 1992 and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree from UCLA School of Dentistry in 1996. He completed his specialty training in orthodontics at UCLA, focusing on craniofacial growth and development.
Dr. Vincent Kokich Jr. has been practicing orthodontics in the Tacoma area for over 20 years. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Santa Clara University and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree from Tufts University.
Dr. Leigh Armijo is the newest member of our team, joining us in 2021.
